OPERATION AIRWAY

Operation Airway is a global surgery program of Massachusetts Eye and Ear in collaboration with the Massachusetts General Hospital for Children to care for children in developing countires who cannot breathe or speak due to airway complications.

They also teach local helathcare providers how to develop their own sustainable airway surgical programs and conduct research to improve and innovate how this care is provided around the world.

The Challenge

Initially, Operation Airway’s (OA) website was built and maintained through a page on the Mass Eye & Ear Hospital’s main website. OA’s co-founders needed better control of the content displayed in order to more succinctly share the mission of Operation Airway while encouraging different types of donations like money, materials, and volunteers.

One of the most important requirements was that we provided an easier way for a donor to contribute since their current system was allowing donations to be combined with general donations for the hospital and ultimately lost.

Because one of their core values was to empower local health care communities with the tools necessary to develop their own sustainable surgical airway programs they needed to allow for easier access to their online curriculum and display instructional YouTube videos not only for local doctors and nurses but for parents & patients too.

Since the majority of parents and patients only speak Spanish, it was paramount that the site also be multi-lingual to allow for translation from English to Spanish.

DELIVERABLES

  • Multi-lingual Website (Spanish/English)
  • Donation capability
  • Blog capability
  • Video embeds for both doctors and patients
  • ConstantContact integration

The Solution

Because OA has two focuses, empowering local health care providers and also guiding parents to better help their children, we created two main pages with subpages targeting each audience.

  • PARENTS & PATIENTS included FAQ pages with downloadable PDFs, QR Codes, and a video library with a clickable table of contents to more easily locate specific videos.
  • PROFESSIONAL RESOURCES included quick access to OA’s online curriculum, a video library of surgical procedures, and other published articles all organized in a clickable table of contents.

To provide a better overview of their mission we broke their work down into eight clickable tabs that link to a synopsis of each farther down on the same page.

We created their donation page to be able to stand-alone, almost like a landing page, so we could quickly convey their mission, answer FAQs, share their successes, and include quick and easy instructions on how to donate.

Once the site was complete, we added multi-lingual functionality for a wider reach.
